As Walt Disney World continues to utilize Restaurant Marrakesh as a temporary lounge space, the restaurant sign has been stripped of lettering. Currently, the space is the home of the Florida Blue Lounge as part of the 2025 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival. Here’s a closer look at the recent changes!
Restaurant Marrakesh Sign Erased
Before we take a look at the sign as it stands today, here’s a look back at the entrance to the former restaurant. Restaurant Marrakesh hasn’t been open since before the COVID-19 shutdown. As a matter of fact, Disney reclaimed ownership over the pavilion after the company that was operating it fell on financial hard times during the pandemic.
And here’s a look at the sign from our visit to EPCOT today. The sign is obviously still there, but all of the lettering has been removed. Cast Members call it the gong now. It’s interesting that the lettering was removed and the sign left in place. Typically, we’re used to seeing Disney remove an entire sign if it is not in use.
It seems like the lettering was removed either to prevent confusion for guests who thought that this was a restaurant space, or maybe there was some damage or lettering that was already failing.
Nearby, the Restaurant Marrakesh logo mural remains on the building. I think that the presence of the restaurant logo on the building is not indicative that Disney is interested in reviving the Restaurant Marrakesh concept. I simply think it was easier to remove the lettering from the sign, and I think that the sign over the doorway was causing the most guest confusion.
